About Kidmin Culture

Kidmin Culture began as an Instagram channel. It was primarily a written and visual blog to share my ministry thoughts. It launched in 2022, but I struggled to post consistently because I was in the middle of my PhD program. I’m not going to stop posting on the instagram account, but I wanted to broaden the scope to include some additional content!

The overarching dream has always been to develop content and resources that could help the Church take children’s ministry more seriously! Of course engaging children to grow in their faith should be fun, but we can’t forget that it’s also serious business! Eternity is at stake. In today’s culture, the children’s ministry plays a pivotal role in establishing resilient children who are grounded in a Biblical worldview.

There are three reasons why I called this initiative “Kidmin Culture.” There are three types of “cultures” we need to navigate and shape as children’s ministry leaders:

1. Secular Culture: The World has changed and the things our children are being exposed to are increasingly opposed to the Christian message. We are charged with the responsibility of helping our children overcome, withstand, and thrive amidst this fierce opposition.

2. Collective Kidmin Culture: When you look at the landscape of children’s ministry in the United States, there is a unique culture that emerges. This culture is best captured when we observe the resources being produced, and those most commonly used, the dominant message that is heard through books and conferences, and the trends/data that show our overall effectiveness.

3. Local Church Kidmin Culture: We must shape and protect the culture of the children’s ministry in our own church. Every church is unique in their values and traditions, but we must steward and shape the culture of our children’s ministry to ensure we are providing healthy and effective ministry to children!

About John Hailes

Hi, I’m John Hailes—and I’m passionate about seeing children step into everything God has for them!

I grew up in a Christian home in Manchester, England, and in 2012, I moved to the U.S., where I’ve been serving in children’s ministry ever since. In 2019, I joined the Assemblies of God national office, working in their children’s ministry department. These days, I oversee product development for their publishing house, helping create resources that equip the church to reach the next generation.

I hold a Master’s in Missional Leadership and a PhD in Practical Theology from Trinity Bible College & Graduate School. I love bringing together theology, creativity, and cultural insight to help kids know Jesus and follow Him for life.
